According to an ancient custom, the Shrovetide, which haunts winter, was burned on Ash Wednesday and thrown into the stream. This ended the Shrovetide festivities which began with the sawing of the hag and continued with celebrations and the dragging of the plank on the night of Shrove Wednesday. From this, after 1970, the traditional Shrovetide events in Cerknica developed.
