Trg Cerknica je bil eden največjih na
Kranjskem. Leta 1880 je štel 255 hiš in
1477 prebivalcev. Osrednji prostor
kraja je trg s cerkvijo, protiturškim
taborom, zgrajenim med leti 1472 do
1482, in lipo. Prva je bila tu zasajena že
leta 1664. Nanj se stekajo vse glavne
ulice stare Cerknice. Trg je bil tako v
preteklosti kot tudi danes osrednji
prireditveni prostor. Tu so bili gostilna,
trgovini, posojilnica, sodavičarstvo,
pekarna, pošta, urar, pleskar, kaplanija,
kasneje tudi zdravstveni dom in lekarna.
Cerknica market town was one of the
largest in Carniola. In 1880 it had 255
houses and 1477 inhabitants. The area
surrounding the market square comprises
a church, an anti-Turk camp
built between the years 1472 and 1482
and the Linden tree. The first Linden
was planted here in 1664. All the main
streets of old Cerknica are spoked
around it. The market square was in
the past and still is today the main
event space. Here stood the inn and
shops, the loan society, a cooper and
baker, the post office, a watchmaker, a
painter and the chaplaincy; later the
health centre and pharmacy.
